Steps Required When a Faculty Member Resigns (EPAF)


Resignation refers to the one of the ways in which the professional relationship between an individual faculty member and UNM may be dissolved or suspended. With resignations the dissolution of the professional relationship is initiated by the faculty member.

Current Process

This employment transaction should be processed via Electronic Personnel Action Form (EPAF). In order to process transactions via EPAF please complete the required EPAF training.


All Deadlines

  • HSC: SOM & COP - 4 months prior to resignation, CON - 3 months prior to resignation
  • Main & Branch Campuses: Regular Faculty - 3 months prior to separation date

Faculty member must provide a signed letter of resignation to the Department Chair three months (Main, Branches & CON) or four months (SOM & COP) prior to resigning.

Forms required to complete resignation:

  • Resignation Letter and/or Form. Must be signed by faculty member and chair (Main & Branch Campuses - the chair then routes to Dean for their signature)
  • Separation Checkout
